"A Detective Story..."

March, 16 1984 Friday

Phone rings.
- Hello.
- Hi, may I help you?
- Yes, for sure. Can you please give me the identification number of this unit?
- What do you mean?
- There’s a number behind the modem of the machine, I mean that black box just beside the panel of the computer.
- Oh, ok. But why do you need it?
- I’ve got a problem with a product bought from your company and that’s the number I need to contact the enterprise.
- I’ll be glad to help you. Here it goes: 186.45.167.1.
- Thanks!
- Ok, bye!

March, 19 1984 Wednesday

O.T.V. management’s meeting.
- So, are we having some problems with our communication with other units of our enterprise?
- Yes, it started yesterday night when I noticed a strange behavior of a non-identified user using the global password, I told that was a bad idea.
- Couldn’t you either identify the origin of the access?
- No, who did it is for sure a smart person or just a total idiot.
- What?
- Never mind.
- By the way, I have a strange relate of the night shift supervisor. That’s the why I called Sr. Johnson here. Sir Johnson can you please tell what happened?
- Sure, it happened on my turn yesterday when the phone called on the Univac’s room just when I was passing by it. It was a man of about twenty years. He said that he had had problems with a product from this enterprise.
- Did he specify the product?
- No, Sir.
- Keep going.
- And then the man told me that he needed a number which seemed like a identification one for contacting the enterprise.
- Can you tell me more about this identification?
- Sure, he told me to take a look behind a strange black box… A modem I think he said as the name.
- And did you give to him?
- Yes, Sir.
- Damn it!
- Try to stay calm, Dr. Fruise. Another employee told us something different as strange as that phone call. I think it can be useful.
- What is it, Mr. Asmell?
- He apologized for stealing a floppy disk dropped at the hall, it description is “Per hour payment docs. Confidential”. But he insisted there wasn’t anything on the disk, it had just opened and given an error message.
- That’s really not good. Your company really must give some classes about computer and Internet security. But I already know who was on the system.

“A tricky situation – abroad”

Some months ago, I went to Italy. In the first two weeks I was in a camp that was also a school. In there, it was very cool but there was a teacher from Brazil that was very bad, because she didn’t do anything with us and she didn’t help us.
I was also in Florence, and on the day before I went to Rome I saw Michelangelos’s David. In Rome, I also saw the Coliseum and other Roman things.
I bought many CD’s and Ipod accessories and there I had a tricky situation. In onenight in Rome, I was with friends at a restaurant when I picked up a taxi and there wasn’t any place for my other two friends. Then, me and other 3 friends stayed in the hotel waiting for my other two friends.
But it was a good trip.

"A bad situation"

My friend, Maristela, has separated parents, so she lives with her mother and her sister, Christina and Eduarda.
Maristela has a dog, Buff, and a bird, Tico.
Christina worked in an Exchange Program (to Israel) and she was transfered. In Israel, they will live in a house in Kibutz, but the journey is very long and, Buff and Tico won't put up with the travel.
Maristela doesn't know who can stay with Buff and Tico because her father doesn't like animals in his apartment. Her grandparents can't stay with animals because they work everyday.
What can Maristela do?

"One day in my life..."

Everyday I wake up
And always have my breakfast.
Then, I take a shower to get ready to school.

At school I meet my friends and
We have fun together.

One day in my life…
One day in my life…

When I get back from school,
I do my homework.
After, I have dinner.

One day in my life…
One day in my life…

I sometimes make my bed,
But when I am going to sleep,
My bed is already made.

Then, I wake up,
And it starts all over again!!!

One day in my life…
One day in my life…
One day in my life…

This is my day…

“COOL PLACES TO VISIT IN BRAZIL”

Ilhabela

It is the most beautiful city, in which 80% of Mata Atlantica is present. There are 36 beaches and it is a mineral water resort. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna on the island. Besides, there are 17 tracks for people to go trekking, but people have to go with a monitor, never alone!

Cachoeira do Toco

One of the most beautiful sights in Ilhabela. They started producing sugar cane, alcoholic drinks there (aguardente) in 1937 and in the 60’s they started banana cultivation. There are restaurants which serve delicious food during holidays.
The water fall is located in a farm which opens for tours to people, charging a small entrance fee to appreciate the amazing pools, falls, and showers created by nature.
You can’t miss it! It is a wonderful place.

Minas Gerais

There are many cool thinks to do in Minas Gerais, where you can learn a lot!
One of these places is a city called “Tiradentes”, where there are many restaurants and bars:
Casa Tavana – in the historical centre
Conto de Reis Steak House – in the historical centre
Conto de Reis – in the historical centre

Another stroll that you can do is a visit to “Maria Fumaça” a very famous train.

Another interesting place to visit is Congonhas city. There, you can find the workmanship of “Aleijadinho”. But, beyond the city, there are many others such as:
Ouro Preto, Mariana, Sabará, Ouro Branco, among others.
Visit these places, I am really sure that you’ll love them!

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is a nice place to visit . Whatever you want to do, you can do in “Rio de Janeiro”.If you want to go to the beach, there are many in Rio de Janeiro, and the nicest beach in Rio de Janeiro is “Copacabana”; but if you prefer to ride a skate, to go to a disco, or to do sports, you have to go to the clubs. There are many excellent clubs there.
The most famous places to go in Rio de Janeiro are Cristo Redentor and Hard Rock Café. These places are very beautiful. You have to go to these places, they are wonderful and unforgettable!

Paraty

In Brazil there is a city called Paraty. If you like history and adventure this is your place. But if you don’t, no problem. In Paraty there are lots of parties and events for young people.
There is a beach called Saco do Mamanguá. This beach is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and it is an environmental reservation. Besides, there is a historical centre where you can see a lot of Brazil’s history. Visit it! It is a must!

Natal

Natal is a beautiful place in Rio Grande do Norte. It is the capital of Rio Grande do Norte. There are many beaches near the hotels, such as Praia do Meio, Ponta Negra, Ponta Branca. The most expensive and cool hotel is Ocean Palace Hotel. It’s a five- star hotel in a privileged location, facing the sea. In Ponta Negra, the sea is so clear and its water is very warm. In this place you can play “ski bunda” or “aero bunda”. It is so cool and funny. You also, can ride a buggy in the dunes, and visit a historical place called “Forte dos 3 Reis Magos” in Natal. If you want to buy souvenirs ,you can find a lot of handicraft work in the free market.
You have to visit Natal! Is a fantastic place to go on holidays.

Salvador

Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia . If you haven’t been there , you don’t know what you miss ! It’s a wonderful city with historical places , museums and beaches to visit . The most interesting thing for me is the fact that you have two towns in two different levels : they are called “ Cidade Alta” and “ Cidade Baixa” .For you to go from one to the other you must take a lift , called “Elevador Lacerda”.You have a wonderful view of the city and the beaches from the lift . You must also visit the “Pelourinho”
and the “Lagoa do Abaeté”. These are some of the most wonderful places for you to visit in Salvador . There are many restaurants offering typical food , but be careful! If they ask you if you want your “acarajé” hot – a typical delicious thing which is fried,
say “no” because if you say “yes” it comes with lots of hot pepper! That’s what they mean by “hot”. Anyway just come to enjoy all the beautiful things in Salvador . You won’t regret it!

How to go about finding a trainee job?

Are you a university student? Are you looking for a trainee job? Here are some ways in which you could find one.

The first and obvious step is looking for opportunities to send your CV on the notice board of your university. If, after some time, no department calls you for an interview, then send your CV to companies which aren’t on the notice board but are offering trainee programmes. Again, wait for some time. If nobody calls you, try your social relationships. A friend or a relative who works in the area you are interest in, who could recommend you for an interview.

Although this is the last step I’m afraid it’s the one that works better. At least that’s what happened to me. My aunt teaches in the MBA of the BM&F and, after analyzing my CV, the Department of Human Resources called me for an interview and I got a trainee job.

I’m supposed to be there from 9 am to 1 pm every day to update the database of the economic currency markers, such as dollar, euro, etc; to make market simulations and to deal with the stockbrokers which operate on the BM&F stock market. It’s a very good experience because while I get used to the topics I’m studying I also make some money. It’s not too much, but it’s enough for a young man in his twenties to take his girlfriend out.

Well, try to get a trainee job. It’s worthwhile.

"A Tricky Situation"

A few years ago, when I was ten years old and living in Guaíba, I had two big dogs, their names were Lutter, the male, and Brenda, the female.

On that day of summer, the sun was hotter than ever. I had gone to the house of my friend Bruna, because she called me to go there to play with dolls. At five o’clock, I came back to my house, but I didn’t know that the electronic gate was turned off and I needed to open it manually. When I finished closing the gate, I saw Lutter coming to my direction to bite my leg. My father and me screamed. I screamed because I was scared and he did because he was angry at the dog!

When my father screamed at the dog, Lutter started to cry and creep because he realized the he had done something wrong.
But luckily nothing happened with me and Lutter never did it again.

Now, Lutter isn’t with us anymore and this was a tricky situation that happened with me!

"A tricky situation"

This story happened when I was 17 years old.
My best friend was invited to her boyfriend’s party and asked me if I could lend her my jacket. I didn’t have parties on that weekend, so I lent her my jacket. The week passed and I was waiting the jacket’s return. It was a Thursday, August 27, when my best friend told me that she couldn’t return the jacket yet, because an accident had happened in the party.

I was very worried with the occurrence, because I didn’t know where my favorite jacket was … I loved that jacket!!! Two weeks passed and my friend talked to me again. She gave me back my jacket, but it was very different and I couldn’t recognize it. In the night I called her and she explained to me what had happened.

Here is the story’s abridgement: In the party, her boyfriend was eating a flambéed banana and he offered it to her. She was going to eat the banana, when her boyfriend threw down the plate on my jacket What happened after was a terrible accident: my jacket caught fire and this made a hole in front my jacket (when she told me this, I almost died). She jumped into the pool and her friend helped her, because she didn’t know how to swim.

She arrived in her home and mended my jacket with a patch. Although my jacket was different, I loved it! I presented the jacket to a important and famous stylist. He liked it so much and made a big production of my new jacket. My friend called me last week and said that she would go to her especial exposition the next day and I was invited. I explained her that I couldn’t go, because I was going to travel that day. She said me she would take a lot of photos and send them to me.
